Chapter 7 - Cutting Down The Aircraft In One Slash!

Crackle!

"Huh?"

Hao's ears perked up as he noticed the ominous sound of the aircraft's weapons being trained on him. Although his Vibe Sense was active, it couldn't stretch far enough to pinpoint the exact location of the hovering vehicle of doom. Instead, he relied on his enhanced hearing to prepare for the imminent barrage of hard steel. His heart rate increased as a concoction of trepidation coursed through his veins. Hao had to act fast in order to survive, but his mind was clouded by the uncertainty of his next move. The sensation of being a sitting duck gnawed at his confidence, but he refused to give in to despair.

“What am I sweating about? I’ve got this.” He slapped his face to stir his confidence.

As Hao sprinted along the edge of the drain, he tried to formulate a plan. If he could just get close enough to the aircraft, he might be able to use his sword's Night Tamer ability to board it and neutralize the threat. But first, he had to survive the hail of bullets.

“You’re dead meat now you darn thief and traitor!”

Thunk!

The pilot's finger pressed firmly on the trigger, commencing the onslaught of thick, juicy bullets to start raining down on Hao.

Bam! Bam! Bam!

The projectiles tore through the air with a menacing ferocity, their destructive potential evident in the way they pulverized the concrete around him. To Hao, each bullet seemed like a messenger of death, a reminder that one false move could spell his doom.

“This situation is intense!”

Realizing that he had to act quickly, Hao focused on the rhythm of the bullets, using his Vibe Sense to anticipate their trajectory. He twisted, turned, and leapt through the air, each movement carefully calculated to avoid the deadly projectiles.

Bullets pelted down like a relentless storm, yet Hao pushed his body to the limit, narrowly evading impalement. He maintained a streak of evasiveness, using every ounce of his physical prowess to stay one step ahead of the hailstorm of bullets. His muscles burned; the pain reminded him that he couldn't keep this up forever.

A frustrated growl escaped his lips, "Blast it! How am I supposed to find that sword now if I can’t even get out of this shit storm? The way I see it, I only have one card left to play. I have to take out that pilot."

Determined to reach the aircraft, Hao decided to take a risk. Spotting an upcoming lamppost, he used his sword to propel himself upwards, the momentum carrying him high into the air and out of reach of the bullet shower. While he soared towards the aircraft, Hao prepared to use his Night Tamer technique.

“Time to end this.” His fingers were ready to unleash Vibe Edge from its sheath.

“Hmm, is he dead yet?” Moving along the top side of the drain, Diana caught the sound of the barrage of bullets and glanced back at Hao, a smirk forming on her lips. She couldn't help but relish the sight of her quarry struggling to survive. However, her moment of distraction was cut short when Colgate abruptly grabbed her hand and yanked her forward, she narrowly avoided a metal pole that she would have collided with because she wasn’t looking where she was going.

"Oi, focus!" he scolded her, not breaking stride.

“Sorry.” Flushing with embarrassment, she mumbled her thanks. "Colgate. I owe you one." Afterwards, she still took a brief gander at her rear. “Huh!” What she witnessed was Hao catapulting towards the aircraft. It made her face contorted with vexation. If he managed to board the aircraft, they would have a much harder time capturing him later. "Colgate, that bastard is trying to get on the aircraft!" she shouted while slowing down her pace.

“Hmm?” Hearing this made Colgate peer behind him, specifically above where the aircraft was hovering.

Back in the air, Hao activated his Night Tamer just in time. It took him only one slash to envelop himself in a cloak of dark noise. Moments later, he reappeared on the aircraft inches away from the pilot.

“What the heck!” The pilot, caught off-guard, didn't stand a chance against Hao's swift and deadly swordplay.

Slash! Slash!

“Go take a swim old timer.” Hao cut an opening through the aircraft along with the pilot’s seatbelt then kicked the sucker outside for a dive.

“Kyah!” The pilot screamed as he fell into the sludge-filled drain below. If he survived the mephitic stench, he would need more than just a bar of soap to cleanse himself.

Rumble!

Due to the pilot’s absence, the aircraft began to lose altitude. “Woah! Steady there.” Hao grabbed the controls, trying to steer it towards the drain in hopes of spotting the X-Class sword. But he had another idea in mind. A wide grin graced his face as he stared out the window down at the Imperial Hounds.

“Huh!”

Colgate and Diana's eyes shot open in shock as they saw the out-of-control aircraft spiralling towards them. Realizing the danger, they hurriedly leapt out of the way. Hao, sensing the impending crash, utilized his Night Tamer ability once more, escaping the doomed aircraft and reappearing safely on the ground.

Boom!

The aircraft collided with the concrete below, its wreckage bursting into a brilliant fireball. The explosion sent debris flying in all directions, and a thick cloud of black smoke began to rise from the wreckage, staining the air with the acrid smell of burning metal. The heat from the explosion radiated outwards, causing the air to shimmer and distort.

In the chaos, Colgate had instinctively shielded Diana, taking the brunt of the blast. He lay on the ground, dazed and disoriented, as Diana frantically tried to bring him around. "Colgate, snap out of it! We can't let him get away with this!" she urged, concern etched on her face.

Hao smirked at the scene before him, feeling a momentary sense of triumph. Not wasting any more time, he turned and continued his search down the drain, scanning the sludge-covered floor for any sign of the X-Class sword. The powerful weapon was crucial to his rise of fame and power in all of Crossblades.
